Phase 1 stage for the PRAISE-HK App has been officially launched on 21 Jun 2019 in HKUST main campus. Officiating guests on the day included Mr. Tse Chin-wan, Under Secretary for the Environment; Mr. Patrick Humphris, Head of Communications, Asia-Pacific, HSBC; Prof. Rashid Shaikh, Director of Science, Health Effects Institute; Prof. John Chai, Vice-Chairman, Council, HKUST; Prof. Lionel Ni, Provost, HKUST; Prof. Christine Loh, Chief Development Strategist, Institute for the Environment, HKUST; Prof. Jimmy Fung, Director of the Institute for the Environment, HKUST; and Prof. Alexis Lau, Project coordinator & Principal investigator of PRAISE-HK, HKUST.

The Launching Ceremony began with a new App trailer that gives us an idea how the PRAISE-HK App works.

Prof. Ni (HKUST), Mr. Tse (Environment Bureau) and Mr. Humphris (HSBC) delivered opening speeches, showing tremendous support and sharing their expectations on the PRAISE-HK project. All officiating guests then joined hands and “turned” the 8 key components and technologies into “PRAISE-HK”. (Watch following highlight video)

At the Smart-City Forum, Prof. Alexis Lau, PRAISE-HK Project Coordinator and Principle Investigator, introduced the state-of-the-art technologies of PRAISE-HK. 

Dr. Gayle Hagler from United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) talked about how scientific data and technologies help people manage their personal air pollution exposure.

Dr. Rashid Shaikh, Director of Science from Health Effects Institute, talked about air pollution exposure and its impact on health.

Prof. Rashid Shaikh, Dr. Gayle Hagler, Prof. Christine Loh and Prof. Christopher Frey shared their valuable insights on the science and policy of personal air pollution exposure management at the panel discussion.
