World Asthma Day is a global event organized annually by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), a collaborative organization founded by the World Health Organization in 1993. This event aims to raise awareness of asthma worldwide and promote a better understanding of the condition.
Theme for 2024: “Asthma Education Empowers”
For 2024, GINA has selected the theme “Asthma Education Empowers.” This theme underscores the importance of empowering people with asthma through education to manage their condition effectively and recognize when to seek medical help. Healthcare professionals are encouraged to increase their awareness of asthma's avoidable morbidity and mortality. By staying informed about effective asthma management, they can provide reliable information and optimal treatment to their patients.
Hong Kong Asthma Society Carnival
In response to World Asthma Day, the Hong Kong Asthma Society (HKAS) organized a vibrant carnival event at Lok Fu on July 13, 2024, under the theme "Asthma Education Empowers (哮喘認知，教育賦之)." The event attracted numerous local residents interested in learning from various shows and game booths.
In celebration, PRAISE-HK team joined the Hong Kong Asthma Society's event at Lok Fu with the theme "Asthma Education Empowers (哮喘認知，教育賦之)". Our Prof. Jimmy Chan was honored as a guest, and updated the latest PRAISE-HK App's ACT feature to other guests including Dr. Tai Lai Bun, Head of HA Public Health Services Branch; Prof. Ko Wai San, Council Members of Hong Kong Thoracic Society; Prof. Hon Kam Lun, Chairman of The Hong Kong Society of Paediatric Respirology and Allergy; Dr. John YH Chan, Honorary Treasurer of The Hong Kong Society of Paediatric Respirology and Allergy; Dr. WONG Wei Yin, Vice-President of CHEST Delegation Hong Kong and Macau.
